°µÍø½ûÇøapp’s Public Work’s department completed the installation of a new ADA-compliant ramp on the side of City Hall. The modular EZ Access Pathway Ramp, purchased from Ramp Pros, replaced an aging wooden structure that required frequent maintenance, including painting and board replacement. The project received significant support from a $5,000 grant awarded by the South Central Iowa Community Foundation with the city contributing an additional $1,000 to complete the installation.
Curt Shields, Director of °µÍø½ûÇøapp Public Works, began dismantling the old ramp to prepare for the new installation which was completed mid-May. The quick turnaround minimized disruptions to city operations.
“We determined it was more cost effective to replace the ramp than to repair it,” said City Administrator / Clerk Barb Stuck, “and this Pathway Ramp requires little to no maintenance or upkeep in the future.” The new ramp is designed specifically to meet the needs of City Hall’s layout and accessibility requirements.
The new ramp features weather-resistant materials, slip-resistant surfaces, and a wider design to improve access for all users. The Pathway Ramp is constructed from environmentally friendly materials and is built to be virtually maintenance free. It will not rust or rot over time, offering a longer-term solution with reduced maintenance demands compared to the previous structure.
“I want to thank the South Central Iowa Community Foundation for their dedication to the health and accessibility needs of our community, said Mayor Doug Foster, “They have really made a difference by sponsoring this project.”
